Council incumbents have ample campaign funds
Apr 17, 2018The incumbents have raised the big bucks in Warrenton’s town council campaign leading to the May 1 election.Seeking re-election to at-large council seats, Sean Polster and Linda “Sunny” Reynolds received total contributions of $10,847 and $11,678, respectively, in the first three months of this year.Their campaign funds dwarf those of challengers Renard Carlos and Keith Macdonald. Mr. Carlos had received contributions totaling $450 as of March 31, according to his report. The state website had no report from Mr. Macdonald.The State Board of Elections posted the campaign finance reports early Tuesday morning. Warrenton candidates faced a deadline Monday, April 16, to file their reports.In the campaign for the open mayor’s seat, Carter Nevill reported contributions of $1,110, and Grace Rigby reported $1,200 in contributions.Warrenton voters next month will elect two at-large council members and a new mayor to four-year terms that start July 1. The council’s five ward seats will appear on the ballot in May 2020.State law exempts candidates running in communities of fewer than 25,000 residents from campaign finance reporting. Thus, candidates in the towns of Remington and The Plains file no reports.
